 Japan earthquake update (I)

The 11 March M9.1 earthquake—the strongest in Japan’s recorded history—has caused extensive destruction across much of the country’s northeast. It is believed that the quake ruptured three segments of the subduction zone off northern Japan. The rupture plane is estimated to be some 400 km in length and 200 km wide and the magnitude is the largest in Japan’s historical record, which dates back several centuries.

SWITZERLAND – Twelve Capital, an insurance-related investment boutique, has completed its spin-off from alternative investment manager Horizon21. The Switzerland-based company specialises in insurance-related investments such as insurance-linked securities (ILS) and insurance debt investment strategies. Twelve will launch two new funds, domiciled in Luxembourg, in early October, and at that time, assets under management are expected to be in excess of $100m (€78.6m).

 Ramseier goes live on new venture

Ex-Horizon21 fund manager Urs Ramseier has launched his new Swiss investment firm Twelve Capital, as predicted by Trading Risk in late July 1. The seven-strong ILS team from Horizon21 is transferring to Twelve Capital in what managing partner Ramseier describes as a "friendly spin-off".
